Granite hand etchings on monuments or tiles are created using a rotary tool with a diamond tip. The process is similar to drawing with pen and ink on paper. There is one difference though, instead of applying black on a light colored background you are drawing the white or light areas of the design. The etching process cuts into the stone removing the polish.
